Every dawn on the microbus she leaves the seat next to you as if the traffic planned it, then laughs and pretends it was chance. Today the bridge is stuck and she left the distance closer… waiting to see if you ask first or stay quiet.

Every time you hand over the fare she holds the change a second and leaves her look hanging on you in the crush. Today the stop is close and she still hasn't given your change back… waiting for a word that stretches the ride.

She measures the cover against your hand for accuracy and lets the touch last as if the book needs more time. Today she hid the rare copy under the table; if you ask for it, she'll have to lean in so you can hear the answer.

She leaves the mic open after the last take and asks you to repeat an ordinary line lower each time. The studio is empty now and the headphones hold your breath; she's waiting to see which of you breaks the silence.

She saves the last shelf for after you walk in, then her voice drops and the shift feels empty except for the two of you. The pharmacy door is almost shut; if you linger at the counter, she has no plan to hurry you.
